Nineteen Bowling Green, Kentucky children are now in state protective custody after being found in their home, left alone for a week with no or air conditioning.

According to a news release, the horrifying discovery was made after the Warren County Sheriff's Office responded to a check welfare complaint.

There's so much "bad" here, I don't know where to begin. I mean, the parents just up and left 19 kids between the ages of 8 and 14 with only a request to neighbors to "look in on them" as their idea of a babysitter? And with no food? And no air conditioning? In triple-digit heat?

This is beyond disgusting.

And how about this? When these kids were discovered, they didn't act as if this was anything out of the ordinary. To make matters worse--if that's possible--the house was swimming in filth, likely a result of the nine dogs and one cat that were also left in the house. Animal control removed the pets.

This is just awful.

The mother was arrested while authorities continue to search for the father.
