Day Trip Destination: Cliftons Pizza in Louisville

A couple of weeks ago, I was in Louisville emceeing the 6th and 7th Region Competitive Cheer Competitions at Valley High School.  And that was reason enough to visit one of my favorite pizza places in town- Cliftons Pizza Co!!

Clifton's Pizza is located at 2230 Frankfort Avenue.  When I was going to school at the University of Louisville, I worked at the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown.  I had a huge group of restaurant buddies and we routinely went out to eat after work.  And one of our favorite hangouts was Cliftons.  And here's one reason why . . .

Nothing like an appetizer to get you ready for the main event and, trust me, the pizza at Cliftons is most definitely the main event!

And, yes!  The pizza at Cliftons is as good as it looks.  Seriously!  If you are ever in Louisville and want to experience a long-running pizza tradition (since 1990), check out Cliftons Pizza Company.  In addition to serving delicious pizza, there are some other features that make the restaurant a unique experience.

First of all, it's situated in one of Louisville's trendiest neighborhoods and it's surrounded by really cool and trendy specialty shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars.  It also happens to be just a few hundred feet away from Louisville's renowned Kentucky School for the Blind.

Secondly, there's great seating inside and, during the warm months, a really cool, full-service patio.  My friends and I used to sit outside and eat there all the time.  It's awesome.  And the patio backs right up against a car repair business.  I know that doesn't necessarily sound inviting or appetizing, but you'll just have to experience it for yourself.

And, thirdly, the decor at Cliftons is pretty simple.  It looks and smells like a pizzeria.  And it certainly has its share of quirky character . . . specifically clocks!  A ton of them.  The walls at Cliftons are full of bizarre and one-of-a-kind clocks.  There are clown clocks, lobster clocks, clocks, clocks and clocks.  And they're all pretty much set to different times.  LOL!  So, don't expect to look up from your food and find out what time it is.

But, you're not going to care anyway.  One bite of pizza at Cliftons and you're going to wish time would stand still.  And, there's actually some good news.  Thanks to the quirky and relatively nonfunctional clocks on the wall, you'll think it has!
