Yes, there may not be many books on my orange shelf, but I think it's good to have a few to liven up a room. What about you? Do you like to read? If so, do you still read a physical book as seen here? Or, do you download all of your literature to your various mobile devices. Me, I do a little bit of both.

First of all, that is Spongebob Squarepants in the photo. I can't remember where he came from, but he calls my shelf his second home when he's not living in a pineapple under the sea. Okay, let's start from the left. Country singer Chely Wright's powerful memoir Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer is really good and it's a book you can read very quickly (I've read it twice!). Next, is a book I bought at shop in Oxford, Mississippi, The Book of Rock. It's basically a coffee table type of book. It contains an A-Z encyclopedia of past and current pop/rock bands and artists.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is good, but it's a very sad story. Most of McCarthy's stories and novels contain vivid imagery, The Road is not only vivid, it's heartbreaking. The next book is one I've yet to crack, but I assure you, it's been loved. My Dad will buy bargain bin books all the time and I don't know why, but he bought Roseanne: My Life as a Woman for me. It was published around the same time the comedienne's hit sitcom really took off. The next five are by a writer I was lucky enough to meet at WKU a few years ago, Chuck Klosterman.

I think my favorite is either Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto or Killing Yourself to Live: 85% of a True Story. Klosterman mostly writes about music, sports, and pop culture and he's a contributing editor to the fantastic pop culture site Grantland. I remember I took notes at his speaking engagement (NERD!) and I talked to him for only a few seconds as he signed all of my paperbacks. Again, I'm a super nerd. I'm going to skip ahead to another cool coffee table book, 1000 Record Covers. This is an anthology of every type of album cover you can think of. Oh what has the digital age done us? Speaking of digital, here's a few titles I've downloaded and I recommend.

You've seen the hit Netflix series (wait! you haven't??, get on it!) now read the memoir that inspired the antics at the fictional Litchfield Correctional Facility for Women. One warning, the book is a LITTLE bit different from the show; in short, it's not as, let's say, graphic, but if you've seen the show, there are a few real characters and scenarios that are included in the series.

If you are on Twitter (if not,do that too!) you must follow comedy/pop culture writer, sometimes actress, Julie Klausner, because she is hilarious! Klausner's first non-fiction title, I Don't Care About Your Band: What I Learned from Indie Rockers, Trust Funders, Pornographers, Felons, Faux-Sensitive Hipsters, and Other Guys I've Dated is about, well, the various men she's dated from high school up until a few years ago. Klausner also hosts a very funny podcast called "How Was Your Week" and her monologues are everything.

Have you heard of this one? I hear it's good. And yes, that's a copy of Bridesmaids on the end. It's not a book, but it's a funny movie.
