Today marks the 49th anniversary of the death of Country singers Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins. The private plane they were in crashed near Dyersburg, Tennessee, March 3, 1963. Also perishing was pilot Randy Hughes.

Patsy was at the top of her career at her death. Her life was portrayed in two films, Coal Miner's Daughter, the story of her friendship with Loretta Lynn. The second is Sweet Dreams, titled after one of Patsy's hits and starring Jessica Lange.

You can see and hear the real Patsy Cline at any of the You Tube videos on this page.

I found a loving tribute to Patsy and the others at a website The Patsy Cline Tribute. It is worth a visit.

When I was moving from New York City to Nashville in 1986 I stopped overnight in Patsy Cline's hometown, Winchester, Virgina. Weary from the journey, I turned on the TV to relax and guess what was on HBO? Sweet Dreams. I had 'em that night, too.
