Are You a Yankee Doodle Dandy? Were You Born on the Fourth of July?

So, in my efforts to learn what famous folks are having birthdays today, I Googled “born on the fourth of july.” Well, I had to take another tack; Google that phrase and you will learn everything you ever wanted to know (or not know) about Oliver Stone’s 1989 Oscar-winning film. It’s just better to ask “who was born on the Fourth of July?”

First of all, happy birthday to you if you’re celebrating an Independence Day birthday. Obviously, the most famous birthday is, well, the United States of America. She’s fairly spry for 235. Yeah, it’s an obvious inclusion, but I kind of, you know, had to. Happy Birthday America! Let’s see, First Daughter-Senior Division, Malia Obama is 13 years old today. I wonder how many red, white, & blue birthday cakes she’s had over the years. And, really, that goes for anyone double-celebrating today.

They say there’s a sucker born every minute. Actually, P.T. Barnum said that. He was born on this day in 1810. No one knows if his famous quote was retro-active. Regardless, life must have been a circus back then. Advice mavens Dear Abby and Ann Landers were born on the Fourth of the July in 1918. Legendary playwright Neil Simon celebrates his 84th today. Geraldo Rivera, who never met a high-profile court case he didn’t like, is 68 today. And I have to include Koko, the gorilla who knows sign language. Koko turns 40 today! Awesome! And there are so many more and we wish them all and you, if it’s your day, a very happy birthday and a very happy and safe Fourth of July!
