Chad Benefield has been with The Country Station, 92.5 WBKR since January of 1998. He joined the WBKR Waking Crew six years ago and, since that time, has been nominated for an Academy of Country Music Award, won a second runner-up Radio and Production Award, and has guest announced on the stage at The Grand Ole Opry . . . three times!Chad is a frequent visitor backstage at the Opry and broadcasts live from there on a regular basis. Chad’s involvement in country music extends beyond working in radio.Chad is a singer/songwriter and has performed in venues from Kentucky to California. He, along with his songwriting partner DJ Potter, have composed three original songs (“Saints and Angels,” “Soar," and "There's Another Star in the Sky") for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They also composed each track on Jaclyn Graves’ debut CD “Tailgater!” In addition to working as a member of The Waking Crew, Chad also serves as WBKR’s promotion director. He is very involved in community events and charity organizations. He serves as the chairperson for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, is an active member of the board of the Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics KY and has an instrumental role in the WBKR/WOMI Telecom Pioneers Christmas Wish program. Komen Foundation, American Heart Association and ACS’ Making Strides event. Chad came to radio from the world of theatre. Before joining WBKR, Chad worked at a youth performing arts group in San Diego, California. He is a produced playwright on both coasts and remains involved in arts education in school systems around the tri-state. When he’s not working, Chad plays softball, tennis and is a slave to trash television! He also still manages to take the stage and perform from time to time. His impersonations of Elton John, Joan Rivers, Richard Simmons and Donkey from “Shrek” are legendary! And, last year at the Lanham Brothers Jamboree, he unveiled his very own take on "The Evolution of Dance." In fact, Chad promises to roll that out again in 2012!

I haven't posted a shameless Kelly Clarkson video in a few weeks, so I am long overdue.  Okay.  I have a handful songs that I consider some of my favorite of all time.  On that list are songs like "Purple Rain" by Prince, "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin and more I will share in a future blog.  But, another song on that list is most definitely "Foolish Games" by Jewel.  And, now, that song just got BETTER!  Kelly Clarkson has joined Jewel for a brand new version.  Check it out!

Local Artist Aaron Kizer Explains Meaning Behind “The Black Print” Project [Video]

Here at WBKR, we are huge fans of local artist Aaron Kizer.  Personally speaking, I think Aaron is just amazing.  His talent is undeniable and people around the world have taken notice.  But, those of us who know him personally know that Aaron is much more than a guy with a paint brush.  He is an artist with a heart as pure and as beautiful as the creations he paints on canvas.  Because of this and his charitable commitments and offerings around the community, I just had a hunch I should jump on board his Black Print project.  Sure, it sounded a little ridiculous to spend $30 on a sheet of paper that was simply painted black.  But, I think everyone who bought a print knew that there was going to be something very impactful in doing so.  Turns out, there was!

Shoulda Been a Hit: Ashley Monroe’s “I Don’t Want To” [Video]

Ashley Monroe has written some huge hits.  She penned Jason Aldean's hit "The Truth."  She co-wrote "Heart Like Mine" by her pal and Pistol Annies bandmate, Miranda Lambert.  And she co-wrote "Flat on the Floor," which led off Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride CD.  While Ashley has had some huge songwriting successes and moderate success with the PA's . . . she hasn't achieved the same heights with her solo attempts.  That said . . . her 2006 duet with Ronnie Dunn called "I Don't Want To" SHOULD have been a hit.  LISTEN!

Tennis Players in Owensboro Rally for Indoor Tennis Center

I am a huge tennis fan!  In fact, I hate to admit this, but I have probably spent 15 to 30% of my total lifetime on a tennis court, in a tennis stadium, or in front of a television with a tennis court on it.  I got addicted to tennis in the early 80's when Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert were going head-to-head in one of the greatest rivalries in the history of sports, when Yannick Noah thrilled his countrymen and won the 1983 French Open and when Jimmy Connors took out John McEnroe to win the 1982 Wimbledon title.  And today, I am just as hooked as I was then.  Serena Williams.  Novak Djokovic.  Maria Sharapova.  And Roger Federer, the greatest player of all-time!  So, where am I going with this?  We may be getting a brand new indoor tennis facility right here in Owensboro!
