Jaclyn Graves

Jaclyn Graves was born in Jackson, TN, but grew up Milan, TN and Mayfield, KY. Go Cardinals! Jaclyn is a true performing artist. She started singing in public at the age of six at the First Baptist Church in Milan. She auditioned and beat out all the nine and ten-year-olds. Her mother, Janet said, “I didn’t even know she liked to sing!” Jaclyn’s first professional appearances were weddings, a job she still performs frequently and also performs with her band at various local clubs and events. She has opened for such artists as Eric Church, Gary Allan, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins, Montgomery Gentry and more. When Jaclyn was in high school, she traveled to Paris, France, with a vocal group led by Bob Westbrook of Memphis that is famous for being the vocal teacher for Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Britney Spears – just to name a few. While there, she performed in Latin at Notre Dame Cathedral. Later in the trip, the group performed modern music in English at Euro Disney. Jaclyn attended Western Kentucky University, majoring in criminology and sociology where she was also a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Jaclyn went on to work with the WKU men’s basketball team for 3 ½ years which was her favorite job ever – well besides being a DJ on WBKR. She is a big sports fan, so she loved it! Hilltopper for life! When Jaclyn started at WBKR, she had no previous broadcast experienced. She met Chad when she entered a local talent contest. She came to WBKR after being offered a guest deejay appearance; she went over so well, she was invited to joining the morning team. Jaclyn left when her daughter Carsyn was born and returned in January 2011 to the midday show. Jaclyn loves singer Luke Bryan and pro quarterback Aaron Rogers. “ Hmmm-hmm…” That’s what she says when she hears their names… Jaclyn says, “The best thing about working at WBKR is it is so much fun! I love the music and a chance to be a part of the community. But if I could be doing anything else it would be a country music singer, with a record deal, hit-songs and touring. It makes me a little jealous to play all of these artists who are doing what I want to do!”

Cousins Are Our First Friends

This weekend, Carsyn and I went to Tennessee and to my Mom's in Marshall County to visit with the family. Right around lunchtime when I was trying to get my mini-me to gather up her things so that we could get on the road and head home, all she would say is, "Mommy! I want to stay for just five more minutes to play with my cousins!" Needless to say, I gave her way more than five minutes. They were all having so much fun, I just couldn't pull her away.

On the quiet ride home (she fell asleep before I even pulled out of the gas station, ha!), I started to remember all of the fun times growing up in Milan with all of my cousins. That's when I realized... "Cousins are our first real friends."

Jac Reviews the Bachelorettes of ABC’s Season 17 of The Bachelor

I will be the first person to admit that deep down, I'm a hopeless romantic. So, ABC's The Bachelor is right up my alley. Ever since season two, I've been hooked! The first night is always the most entertaining, because these girls go way, way out of their way to "impress" their suitor. This season, Sean Lowe is the bachelor. (Warning, he is super hot and seems like a total sweetheart!)

So, what were some of my favorite trainwreck moments from last night?

Things To NEVER Say To A New Mother

Yesterday at church while I was waiting to check Carsyn into "Sunday School", I noticed a new mother in front of us in line. She was holding a very new baby, I'm guessing she couldn't have been older than 6 weeks or so. While I was admiring that little bundle of preciousness (and praying that Carsyn didn't go straight for her), I witness not one, but two women ask this new Mom a question that should never be asked! Now, as my inner-redneck struggled to explode on these women, I started thinking about questions and comment that you should NEVER say to a new mother.

One Mom’s iPhone Rules For Her Son

This is one of those pictures that has shown up on my facebook feed just about a million times. So, at notification 11,576, I finally clicked on it and read it through. It was about a Mom, Janell Burley Hofmann and her 13 year-old son. You see, her son received an iPhone for Christmas. But, what's interesting about this story is what went along with him receiving that iPhone... a set of rules, 18 rules to be exact. And, if I'm being completely honest with us both, I know a lot of adults who need some of these rules... including myself.

Some of my favorites are: "#11Turn it off, silence it, put it away in public. Especially in a restaurant, at the movies or while speaking with another human being. #17 Keep your eyes up. See the world happening around you. Stare out a window. Listen to the birds. Take a walk. Talk to a stranger. Wonder without googling."

Want to see the other 16 rules?

Do You Make Resolutions? [VOTE]

I know, I know... it's already January 3rd. Why am I just now talking about New Year's resolutions? Well, you know me, I'm normally late to things, ha! Let's be honest. I don't even remember what my resolutions were from last year, so I'm just guessing that I didn't stick to them.
I think this year, here are a few of mine: Run a half marathon (April 13th!), become a better Mom, friend, etc., be a more giving person & always be happy! So, my question is...
