Jaclyn Graves

Jaclyn Graves was born in Jackson, TN, but grew up Milan, TN and Mayfield, KY. Go Cardinals! Jaclyn is a true performing artist. She started singing in public at the age of six at the First Baptist Church in Milan. She auditioned and beat out all the nine and ten-year-olds. Her mother, Janet said, “I didn’t even know she liked to sing!” Jaclyn’s first professional appearances were weddings, a job she still performs frequently and also performs with her band at various local clubs and events. She has opened for such artists as Eric Church, Gary Allan, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins, Montgomery Gentry and more. When Jaclyn was in high school, she traveled to Paris, France, with a vocal group led by Bob Westbrook of Memphis that is famous for being the vocal teacher for Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Britney Spears – just to name a few. While there, she performed in Latin at Notre Dame Cathedral. Later in the trip, the group performed modern music in English at Euro Disney. Jaclyn attended Western Kentucky University, majoring in criminology and sociology where she was also a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Jaclyn went on to work with the WKU men’s basketball team for 3 ½ years which was her favorite job ever – well besides being a DJ on WBKR. She is a big sports fan, so she loved it! Hilltopper for life! When Jaclyn started at WBKR, she had no previous broadcast experienced. She met Chad when she entered a local talent contest. She came to WBKR after being offered a guest deejay appearance; she went over so well, she was invited to joining the morning team. Jaclyn left when her daughter Carsyn was born and returned in January 2011 to the midday show. Jaclyn loves singer Luke Bryan and pro quarterback Aaron Rogers. “ Hmmm-hmm…” That’s what she says when she hears their names… Jaclyn says, “The best thing about working at WBKR is it is so much fun! I love the music and a chance to be a part of the community. But if I could be doing anything else it would be a country music singer, with a record deal, hit-songs and touring. It makes me a little jealous to play all of these artists who are doing what I want to do!”

It’s Time To Grow Up – Jaclyn’s Open Letter to the Haters in Online Public Forums

When I got settled in at work this morning, I had an email from a listener. Here's what it said:

"I'm not sure if this has been addressed or noticed but you are taking one heck of a beating on (a forum/chat website)! I was just wanting to let you know before it gets way out of hand! So if you would take a look ASAP and hopefully you can say what you have to say! This is Owensboro and I know how one rumor can ruin your whole career and/or life!"

Now, I think most of us can guess what site this ridiculousness is on, but I don't promote adolescent behavior and I won't start now.

Needless to say, I am not at all happy about this.

Jaclyn Meets Brantley Gilbert

Well, we knew that it would probably happen one day. It was inevitable with all of the country music events that we go to, I would one day be at the same event as Brantley Gilbert. I have been known to express my opinions about him wearing his nasty cut-off gym t-shirts to award shows and the fact that he wears more jewelery than I do.This past weekend, we were in Memphis for our annual Country Cares seminar for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Friday night at our casino event, I looked up and in he walks.

Carsyn’s School Practices In Case The “Bad Guys” Show Up

When I picked Carsyn up yesterday afternoon, I went through our normal daily questions: How was your day? Did you get a treasure at school? Did you apologize to Mrs. Roby for not listening in music class last week? What all did you do at school today? What was your letter of the day?

Her answers were pretty normal until she started telling me about something new that they did. She said, "Mommy, we went downstairs and hid, just for pretend Mommy, in case the bad guys come to my school."

Cousins Are Our First Friends

This weekend, Carsyn and I went to Tennessee and to my Mom's in Marshall County to visit with the family. Right around lunchtime when I was trying to get my mini-me to gather up her things so that we could get on the road and head home, all she would say is, "Mommy! I want to stay for just five more minutes to play with my cousins!" Needless to say, I gave her way more than five minutes. They were all having so much fun, I just couldn't pull her away.

On the quiet ride home (she fell asleep before I even pulled out of the gas station, ha!), I started to remember all of the fun times growing up in Milan with all of my cousins. That's when I realized... "Cousins are our first real friends."
