Thirteen days and counting until the premiere of a new TV series I've been looking forward to for about a year. I first heard about Bates Motel last spring and I've been jazzed about it ever since.

I'm a huge fan of Psycho, despite the fact that I knew all about the huge twist before I ever saw it. If you can know that classic shocker 37 minutes into the film and STILL enjoy repeated viewings, you have an indelible classic.

But the Psycho back story, only mentioned briefly in the film, has always been well worth a movie of its own, if not a series. Those ridiculous Psycho sequels in 80s gave it a try and there was a horrible 1987 TV-movie, but they were just unintentionally funny.

Bates Motel will give its audience a detailed account of the childhood and teen years of Norman Bates and how he became what he ultimately became.

The odd thing about this prequel is that it's being described as contemporary. But, I suppose if we suspend disbelief and forget that Psycho came out in 1960, everything will be fine. I can't wait to see it.
