What is infotainment? Yes, it's a real word. It usually refers to a TV show. The site Road Snacks claims to be an infotainment site and there's a faint disclaimer that states "This article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don't freak out." Too late!

Well, in Road Snacks' latest opinion based on facts list, they have ranked Beaver Dam the dumbest city in Kentucky. Oh, they will not be getting away with it that easy.

In their "research", they ranked the top 10 dumbest cities based on the following criteria, percentage of the city's population with less than a high school education (ages 25+) and percentage of high school dropouts (ages 16-19). Now they did provide a much more visible disclaimer for their research. They only looked at cites with populations of 2,000 or greater and they looked at the graduation rates for the entire population, NOT the current rate for high school students. So the list includes, in total, 112 Kentucky cities.

Somehow, my hometown of Hartford was spared or our population shrank; maybe the "home of 2,000 people and a few soreheads" slogan needs to be changed, I am just speculating. I call Beaver Dam my first hometown. I lived there from birth to 4, thus I'm a little offended by the Road Snackers. This list is already notorious as several of my friends on Facebook have shared it and their reactions rank from anger to "oh that's funny" to "who the bleep cares?".

I can understand the anger. I know a lot of people from Beaver Dam and they are definitely not dumb; many have college degrees, some have advanced degrees, some own businesses. I also know they are smart enough to know not to take this site or this ranking seriously, but a little rousing never hurt anyone. All of them have pointed out Kentucky is misspelled in the first line of the article. Ouch!

As for Owensboro, they ranked 71 on the list. Lucky! The bottom line, when a site has  headings like "ghetto" or "redneck", just take it with a grain of salt, or don't take it all.
