Blake Shelton’s Oklahoma Tornado Benefit Show Tonight LIVE on WBKR
Native Oklahoman Blake Shelton moved quickly to organize a benefit concert for his home state and the town of Moore, which was battered by a deadly tornado on Monday (May 20).
A day after the devastating storm, the singer announced that he would be putting a show together and rallied the troops. Since time is of the essence when it comes to natural disasters and mending the destruction they leave behind the concert will take place today – only 9 days after the disaster.
“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy,” Shelton says in a press release.
The show will take place today at 8 CST at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. He adds, “This is why I want to do this special and especially hold it in Oklahoma City, which is near ground zero.”
Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Vince Gill, Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts and Ryan Tedder from One Republic have been added to the show.. Both Tedder and Joe Don Rooney from Rascal Flatts have strong ties to Oklahoma. Dubbed ‘Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert,’ the charity event will be broadcast live right here on WBKR starting at 8 PM.
On Thursday (May 23), Shelton shared a link on his Facebook page asking fans to help give to the community by simply hitting ‘share.’ For every share in a 24-hour period, jcpenney promised to give $1 to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief effort, up to $50,000. At press time, Shelton’s post alone had over 66,000 shares on the social media site.
