As funny as it seems, I sometimes miss school. And I mean K-8, because if I knew now what I didn't know then, I would have aced all of my classes. Hey, isn't that a Toby Keith song? Anyway, I was perusing the internet and I found a link to a Bullitt County schools eighth grade exam from 1912. You thought school was easy back then? Think again!

Of all the subjects in school I hated the least, and this extends to the only type of class I had to take at WKU, it's MATH! Math is the devil! Quick story, in first grade, I was placed in advanced math class, however, I didn't do any of my homework, on purpose. Ooops! I got a firm talking to, I was embarrassed and I bawled like a baby in tummy time. My last comment on the subject, geometry is the spawn of Satan. Science on the other hand, was pretty neat to me. Alas, the last time I enjoyed a science class was more than likely in eighth grade. And there is no way, I could have answered the questions on this test without multiple choices. Here's the link to take the test, WITH multiple choices.

Go ahead, I'll wait.

How did you do? I got the following questions wrong.

What does the liver secrete? Not insulin! Bile, gross!

What does the cerebellum control? More than intelligence, in fact, it doesn't control balance at all. I'm sorry, but the word cerebellum screams level and balance to me.

Where is the cerebrum located? The forebrain???? I didn't know about this until now.

What does the spinal column do? It doesn't link the brain???? Again, I'm bewildered.

Finally, how do we maintain proper health? Remember, this is from the early 20th century, and yes, proper hygiene became a lot more emphasized. For hundreds of years, not a lot of folks formally bathed. Those powdered wigs were true rats' nests.

I do know if I ever had any questions about the human body, I always consulted this guy.
