Last weekend, the City of Owensboro unveiled the all-new Smothers Park downtown! And thousands of people flocked to Veteran's Boulevard to check out the new riverfront at Friday After Five and Saturday during the Owensboro Air Show. Dave Spencer and I were there overgrand-opening weekend as well, broadcasting live and chatting with folks about the exciting downtown improvements. But, it didn't take us long standing in the cool new playground at Smothers Park to realize we wanted in on the action too. And, after watching some little kids fly out of one slide in particular, we knew it was on!

OPD Chief Announces Retirement

Colonel Glenn W. Skeens, Chief of the Owensboro Police Department, has announced his retirement effective September 1, 2012. Colonel Skeens began his law enforcement career with the Owensboro Police Department in 1989. He has served in key leadership positions within the department for 12 years. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2000, followed by Deputy Chief in 2002. Skeens served as Deputy Chief until his appointment to Chief in 2007.

CYP’s Lady In Red Event
Chamber Young Professionals (CYP) provides a great opportunity for professionals 40 years and younger to network and to educate themselves on important issues facing the Greater Owensboro area. The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce encourages members to become more involved throughout the community and to serve as future leaders.
Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Lady in Red event is CYP's biggest fundraising event of the year. This year they are looking into several different projects to support such as scholarships for high school seniors and improvements downtown.
This year will be the 4th annual event. It will be held a the RiverPark Center's Woodland's Plaza from 8:00 PM - midnight on August 25.
