I was fully prepared to listen to a sermon this morning at church regarding what it means to be a great father. I am lucky enough to have a great Dad and several great father-figures in my life, so I felt like I knew how the message was going to go. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised!

As always, I was searching for a seat while the choir was singing their first song. Since I didn't know it (sorry, but I'm an old-fashioned hymn kind of girl!), I found myself looking through the bulletin to check out what was going on in the church. Guess how excited I got when I read that Patrick Henry Hughes was the guest speaker! Some know him from seeing him on Extreme Home Makeover, ESPN, Oprah, Ellen or have simply heard about his physical limitations. Although he would never call them disabilities, but "abilities".

To say that my heart was happy and full when I left church this morning is an understatement. It doesn't take much to realize just how lucky and blessed we really are.

On Tuesday, WBKR got a jump start on the 2012 CMA Music Festival by heading down to Nashville for The Grand Ole Opry's annual Opry Plaza Party.  As it is every year during our broadcast, Carrie Underwood's official Fan Club Party was going on inside and hundreds of devoted Carrie fans were there for a special meet-and-greet and private concert performance.  After the party ended, those fans stormed the Opry plaza and we had the chance to meet them, chat and take a look at their souvenirs.  It turns out, some of Carrie's biggest fans are from right here in the tri-state!  Check this out!

Sorry Ray Bradbury fans, Mr. Bradbury will no longer write about the future; he has entered it. He died last night in Southern California. That's where I had lunch with him once. Well, he was at the next table. It was in the early 80's and I was having a Steve Harvey Breakfast at an outdoor patio on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I used to love to hang out there and watch the rich people come and go. To my right, nearest the street, was a gentleman -- as I learned later -- was from HBO. When another man sat down, he told him Ray Bradbury was on his way.  After the three of them were together I leaned my head in their direction to hear better. They were discussing making an HBO series on Bradbury's Martian Chronicles.  Sure enough a few months later it debuted and was a very successful HBO seies.  Wow, in this day of Facebook and Twitter everyone would have known about that is seconds. So, so long, Ray -- I enjoyed the lunch.

One of my favorite singers of all time is being honored tomorrow in Friars Point, Mississippi the place where Conway was born. His birth name was Harold Jenkins he changed his name in 1957 to Conway Twitty by borrowing the names of Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas.  He started his career as a Rock N’ Roll singer but later went on to have 55 #1 Country hits before he passed away June 5th, 1993.
