Too often we hear of a celebrity doing something bad or acting like a diva. Well, that's not what we have here. Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. (Well, at least before his recent injury.) Although Aaron is known for keeping out of the spotlight, he's also known for his charitable actions.

Thru his organization, it's Aaron, he recently surprised a 13 year-old girl with spina bifida. In conjunction with IndependenceFirst, he helped to make a memory with Kelly that will last a lifetime.

Here at WBKR, we are very excited about our brand new 5K event.  Run Run Rudolph will take place 4pm, Saturday, December 7th at the Santa Claus Land of Lights.  Yep!  We're going to be running through the classic story of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and we're celebrating by giving our runners reindeer t-shirts, antlers and, of course, a very shiny nose!  But here's some good news for those of you who don't want to play in the reindeer game we call running.  LOL!  You can WALK the course!!

No-Shave November is a great cause. Seriously, anything that raises awareness of and funding toward cancer research is a great program as far as I'm concerned. That being said, I'm not a fan, ha! Let's lay it out there... most men just can't grow attractive beards. And, being that these men only grow a beard for thirty days of the year, most don't know the proper up-keep of a beard. It often turns into scratchy hair and misplaced food particles, getting progressively worse as the month goes on, ha!.

Stem Cell Donor Drive to Benefit Evansville Detective Battling Leukemia

Nathan Schroer is well-known here in the tri-state.  Not only is he an Evansville police detective, but he's also a member of the well-known band The Redemption Song.  But Nathan's gaining even more attention these days because of his brave battle with leukemia.  In recent years, he has had good days, bad days.  He's fallen in and out of remission.  And now his cancer is back . . . again.  But Nathan's community is stepping up to help with a stem cell donation drive in his honor on Sunday, November 3rd..

I honestly have never seen anything quite like this.  Apollo High School graduate and Owensboro native Keith Medley is coming home this evening for a special performance to benefit the music education programs of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.  And Keith will be playing the instrument he designed, built and mastered . . . the 27-string guitar!  You have to see and hear this to believe it.  WATCH!

Racers For Ryan Event Saturday

Twenty-one year old Ryan Peters was killed tragically in an accident at Windy Hollow Speedway September 8th. The racing community as well as the Tri-State area has offered an outpouring of support to Ryan's friends and family during this difficult time.

Saturday, October 19th... YOU can also show this family support by coming to Racers for Ryan! This is a great event planned at TowneSquare Mall in Owensboro and it sure to be a great day to celebrate Ryan's life and raise a lot of money!

Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church’s 4th Annual Soles 4 Souls Shoe Drive

For the fourth year, Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church will be collecting new and gently used clean shoes during the month of October. Along with Soles 4 Souls, they plan to ship the shoes to Haiti and natural disaster victims in the United States and around the world.

Via their website, Soles4Souls is a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty. The organization advances its anti-poverty mission by collecting new and used shoes and clothes from individuals, schools, faith-based institutions, civic organizations and corporate partners, then distributing those shoes and clothes both via direct donations to people in need and by provisioning qualified micro-enterprise programs designed to create jobs in poor and disadvantaged communities. Soles 4 Souls is based in Nashville.
