Heath and Molly Did It: “Camping for Kids” in the Brutal Cold Successful

They did it!  I thought they were nuts.  Some of you thought they were crazy.  But they did it!  McLean County singing duo Heath Eric and Molly G. spent Sunday night OUTSIDE as temperatures plummeted below zero and the wind chill dipped near -30 degrees.  The duo decided to take advantage of Mother Nature's cruel January joke and turn a negative (literally) into something positive.  They decided to Camp for Kids and raise awareness for those in Western Kentucky who are cold every winter . . . because they don't have the means to buy winter coats or heat their homes.  It was a brave and risky venture, but they did it!  And the husband and wife duo called The WBKR Waking Crew this morning as they thawed to share what is was like to camp in sub-zero temperatures!

Denim & Diamonds: The Concert Fundraiser for St. Jude

Here at WBKR, we are gearing up for Denim & Diamonds: The Concert Fundraiser for St. Jude.  It's set for Friday, January 31st at the Theatre Workshop Opryhouse, which was just recently renamed The Empress!  This is the 4th year for our concert event and we are excited to announce this year's line-up of acts.  Check it out!

Knottsville Boy Sells T-Shirts for St. Jude

Gavin Howard has become a staple of the annual WBKR/Poole's Pharmacy Care St. Jude Radiothon.  His involvement started a couple of years ago when Jaclyn and I got a call during the event and were told that Gavin wanted to stop the studio and donate all of his birthday money to the kids of St. Jude.  Well, that tradition continues and last year Gavin donated over $300!  And this year, the Knottsville youngster plans to donate even more money because he is selling t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies!

The 37th Annual Telecom Pioneers WBKR/WOMI Christmas Wish was officially a success! 1,159 wish letters and according to Jaclyn, those families had on average three children. You helped us fulfill 960 letters and made sure those children will have a smile on their face come Christmas morning!

You gave us $61,000 in cash and over $61,000 in toys and gifts.

The 37th Annual Telecom Pioneers WBKR/WOMI Christmas Wish was officially a success! We received over 1,100 wish letters and those families had on average three children. That's over 3,000 Tri-State children who will have a smile on their face come Christmas morning!

Run Run Rudolph 5K Rescheduled for Saturday, Dec 14th!
