Pumpkinfest was a total blast...and that was just the PLANNED events and activities. I was heading toward the stage to announce another musical act on Saturday when Townsquare Media/WBKR Events Coordinator Melanie Leach walked up to me and announced, "We have a flash mob." Very cool.
As some of you may know, 6-year-old Harlie Bryant has brain cancer. Among the many ways you can chip in and help is the Gold Canyon Fundraiser, which has been extended another week.
I first heard of the Prayers for Lane Goodwin Facebook page late last week and read with great interest and sadness of Lane's battle with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma stage IV. That's nothing you ever want to read about a child.
Tori Trizzle, who turned 13 on September 1st, has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in her leg. In addition, her doctors have found spots on her lungs. The biopsy will reveal the details. Her chemotherapy began on September 3rd. I'm already getting a sense of how tough this brave girl must be.
The Clay Campbell Memorial Blood Drive is today through Wednesday. Keep The Beat Alive! event is today at Apollo High School with the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center's Bloodmobile until 6:00pm. You can also donate at the WKRBC through Wednesday
Eric from the Western Kentucky Raptor Center stopped by my show today to talk about their upcoming fundraising event and brought the cutest little Eastern Screech Owl along you've ever seen! Thor was a little nervous about his first radio appearance, but he did great! (Ok, he pooped on a plate and feathers were everywhere, but that's ok, haha!)
The center is holding a really neat fundraising event at the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens Sunday, September 16th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. The guests of honor include an American Kestrel, a Red Tail Hawk, Screech Owls and a Turkey Vulture!
Emma Ford is a four year-old little girl from Greenville battling brain cancer. On September 23rd, you can support Emma and her family by attending the silent auction/benefit beauty pageant. All proceeds are being donated to the Ford family.

Ever since we learned the news that Joe Lowe has cancer, the entire community has come together to do whatever it can to help. Everything from lifting Joe's spirits with cards or by signing the scrapbook we have in the lobby to organizing benefits as a form of paying tribute, everyone has chipped in.
I guess it never occurred to me that there are kids in Daviess County who don't have something as basic as a good pair of shoes for school. I'm glad I am now aware so that I can pass along some very important information.
