The 2012 Battle for the Big O continues this week with back-to-back auditions Friday and Saturday!  Our audition rounds kicked off about a week ago at The Sandbar in Owensboro and we want to send a huge CONGRATULATIONS out to Rodney Watts of Vine Grove, Kentucky and Daniel Epperson of Rockport, Indiana!   Both qualified for our grand finale on Saturday, August 4th at Diamond Lake Campground and Resort.  We're looking for an act to open The Big O Music Fest in August.  That's right!  Our champion is going to win $500 and get the chance to open for Blake Shelton, Tracy Lawrence, Jo Dee Messina, Gloriana, Lo Cash Cowboys, Joanna Smith, and WBKR's very own Jaclyn Graves.  We have three open auditions left with two coming up this week at Jimbo's Sports Bar and Owensboro RV!

The Van-Dells are "The Nation's Number 1 Rock & Roll Review" and they are coming back to Owensboro! I spoke with Duke from the Van-Dells on Tuesday and he was very excited that they are coming back here. They performed for a number of years here in town at the once-rockin Executive Inn.

This weekend, they'll be performing at Pangea Cafe on Carter Road for two dinner shows. This is such a cool event! Your ticket price includes not only a great show from the Van-Dells, but a delicious dinner from Pangea Cafe!

You can always count on the LoCash Cowboys to do great things for their fans, a bunch of which live in and around the WBKR listening area. That's why they are always a big draw for local concerts. Of course, they'll be in concert here August 18th for the Big O Music Festival 2012. But, this past week, during CMA Musiic Fest, Thursday morning (June 7), Preston Brust and Chris Lucas of the LoCash Cowboys got up bright and early to hang out with their fans at Puckett’s Grocery in downtown Nashville for an intimate breakfast in the midst of the 2012 CMA Music Festival activities. Lucas brought many of family members with him, including his proud mother, his lovely wife and their two-year-old son.

Josh Turner, last year's Taste of Country star in a concert presented by WBKR at Ellis Park is such good guy. In mid-April, tragedy struck Brooklyn, Ohio when a man killed his wife and two daughters inside of a local Cracker Barrel. After he committed three murders, police had no choice but to shoot him. To help ease the pain felt by the very small community, Josh Turner stopped by the restaurant parking lot to put on a live performance for a jam-packed parking lot.

On Tuesday, WBKR got a jump start on the 2012 CMA Music Festival by heading down to Nashville for The Grand Ole Opry's annual Opry Plaza Party.  As it is every year during our broadcast, Carrie Underwood's official Fan Club Party was going on inside and hundreds of devoted Carrie fans were there for a special meet-and-greet and private concert performance.  After the party ended, those fans stormed the Opry plaza and we had the chance to meet them, chat and take a look at their souvenirs.  It turns out, some of Carrie's biggest fans are from right here in the tri-state!  Check this out!

Last year, when Chad, Jaclyn, and I broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry Plaza during CMA Music Festival week, it was something like 95 degrees with a heat index of, oh, I don't know, 180. It was HOT!
