I think many of us have weighed in on Black Friday--the official kick-off of the Christmas season--beginning, for many retail outfits, on Thanksgiving evening. But, let's face it, Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season.
I'll be the first to say that sometimes, writing a Thank You note can seem like a hassle. Especially if you've just gotten married or had a baby, because there are tons to get sent out. And, if you're like me, no matter how old I get, my Mother is calling every 10 minutes asking if I've gotten the notes out, ha!
Then again, if you're like me, there's a feel-good feeling that comes from opening up a piece of actual mail, reading someone's own handwriting and feeling appreciated.
Yesterday, Carsyn and I got a Thank You in the mail...from a 7 year old.
The 2012 Thunder Roads Kentucky and Owensboro Biker News Holiday Bash is tonight! Formerly called The Bikers Ball, over the three previous Christmas seasons, this event has been one of, if not the largest contributor to the Western Kentucky Toys for Tots fundraising campaign. This event has assisted the Toys for Tots campaign, along with many other local businesses in helping take care of thousands of children each year in the 11 local counties serviced by the GySgt. W.J. Norris Detachment #804 Marine Corps League.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is all about taking care of the children who are fighting for their lives. They do their best to make sure the kids are having fun and enjoying their regular lives as much as possible. And, this Christmas, you can help out too!
Every year I broadcast live from our Christmas Wish office and this year is no different. The office opened on Monday in Towne Square Mall, but I won't be over there until this coming Monday.
Yesterday, Chad called and asked me to go over to the office when I got off the air and help investigate letters. Of course I said "Sure!", but was thinking "Ugh, I'd rather not." Yep, you know what's coming next.... It doesn't take too many phone calls to realize just how lucky and blessed we all are.
It's a Christmas tradition for Chad, Dave and I to broadcast live from Gaylord Opryland Resort. I'll be honest, being here really kicks me into the Holiday Spirit every year! We also always go to the dinner show at the resort. For the last few years Louise Mandrell, but this year, Lorrie Morgan is here for her Enchanted Christmas Dinner & Show. Dinner was great, the show was great and you should check it out!

Last year was my first experience at the Hadi Shrine Circus in Evansville. Carsyn LOVED it and so did I. So, of course we had to go back this weekend. One elephant ride and princess face-painting later... it was just as much fun as it was before! I've heard from so many of you that it's a family tradition to go Thanksgiving weekend to the circus and I'm thinking that it's going to be a tradition of ours from now on too.

On Thanksgiving, we're always reminded of how the little things really do make the biggest impressions on our lives. Of course, I'm thankful for my little ray of sunshine Carsyn, my family, friends, job, health and of course...you, my listeners! But, here lately, with another family member beginning her service to our great country, I'm more thankful of all of the men and women who are away from their families to protect ours.
Even Carsyn knows that red means stop. If a three year-old knows that, licensed drivers should, right?!? I thought so!
This Thanksgiving week, November 18th-24th, is Daviess County Stop Red Light Running Awareness Week. With the beginning of the holiday season here, what better time than now to promote awareness of the dangers of red light running and to crack down on drivers who disregard traffic signals.

The Owensboro Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau will again begin collecting Christmas Cards for Veterans in 2012. All cards collected will be distributed to veterans in senior living facilities and nursing homes.
Last year, over 1800 cards were collected and distributed to area veterans in 13 different facilities around Owensboro, as well as the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. This is the Convention & Visitors Bureau’s sixth year collecting cards.
A benefit dinner and silent auction is being held in support of Avery Jo Murphy and her fight against leukemia. The event is Saturday, November 10th at St. Pius Parrish Hall. The doors open at 5:00pm. Tickets for the event are $10.00.
