Michael Cable's body returned home Thursday morning. The Philpot 26 year old was killed while serving in Afghanistan last week.

Community members joined together this morning to show their support for Sgt. Cable and his family by lining up along the route from the airport to the funeral home.

I will never forget watching the processional of official vehicles, Patriot Riders and other organizations leading Sgt. Cable's body and family and close friends down Frederica Street. Three veterans stood with us in front of the station and seeing their reaction was very emotional. We tend to take for granted the freedoms what we have and the men and women who protect those freedoms. Sgt. Michael Cable and all that serve our great nation can never be thanked enough for their service.

But, hearing about the fire this morning, my heart was broken for everyone that had. I think we all have churches that have molded us into who we are today and churches that house life-changing moments that we'll never forget. Today, that place for so many, is gone.

The fire inside First Christian, according to the OPD, began shortly after 3:00am. WBKR's Chad Benefield went to scene around 10:00am and the church was still on fire. He took some photos of the church. It's so sad to see these photos and know all of the history and memories that will always remain although the church will not.
