Hundreds survived American Idol's auditions and made it to Hollywood. Now, only a handful will survive to compete for a chance to perform on the live shows. American Idol is on tonight and two contestants with WBKR ties are in the hunt! Can they survive the drama that is Hollywood week?
Owensboro singer Jenny Beth Willis has made it the Hollywood rounds of American Idol and is already learning what kind of fame and notoriety that show can bring. When the Baton Rouge auditions aired on WEVV Fox 44, Jenny Beth's audition wasn't even broadcast. However, she has already earned the adoration of a couple of guys from YouTube (i.e. the really creepy guy staring in the bottom right-hand corner of the video still). Check this out! Here are a couple of reviews of Jenny Beth's performance that absolutely no one in America saw. And, no. I can't explain how you review a contestant you didn't really see. We'll need to call in Dr. Drew for that. LOL! Check this out.
Now it's hard to imagine a time when Eric Church wasn't having hits. But, in the beginning of his career, he struggled . . . really struggled . . . to reach the Top 10. Truly, I thought (and Dave Spencer thought as well) that Eric was destined for greatness way back in 2006 when he released his first single, "How Bout You." While its showing was respectable, the song fell short of expectations and reached #14 on the Billboard Country Chart. However, I thought then . . . and still think to this day . . . it SHOULDA been a hit! Check out this live version.
American Idol season 4 champ Carrie Underwood hails from Oklahoma. So, producers naturally thought that it would be a breeding ground for some amazing new talent. As WBKR Idol expert Steve Thompson explains, they may have been mistaken.
I haven't posted a shameless Kelly Clarkson video in a few weeks, so I am long overdue. Okay. I have a handful songs that I consider some of my favorite of all time. On that list are songs like "Purple Rain" by Prince, "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin and more I will share in a future blog. But, another song on that list is most definitely "Foolish Games" by Jewel. And, now, that song just got BETTER! Kelly Clarkson has joined Jewel for a brand new version. Check it out!
Just one more night of auditions on American Idol and WBKR's Idol expert, Steve Thompson, was tuned in last night to catch the auditions in two cities. See which contestants are contenders and which ones have absolutely no chance at all.
Ashley Monroe has written some huge hits. She penned Jason Aldean's hit "The Truth." She co-wrote "Heart Like Mine" by her pal and Pistol Annies bandmate, Miranda Lambert. And she co-wrote "Flat on the Floor," which led off Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride CD. While Ashley has had some huge songwriting successes and moderate success with the PA's . . . she hasn't achieved the same heights with her solo attempts. That said . . . her 2006 duet with Ronnie Dunn called "I Don't Want To" SHOULD have been a hit. LISTEN!
She's got her golden ticket! This is very exciting news. Jenny Beth Willis of Owensboro is off to the Hollywood round of American Idol. Though she wasn't shown in last night's episode featuring the Baton Rouge auditions, Jenny Beth is featured on Idol's website in "The Road to Hollywood." CHECK THIS OUT!!
Each year, when we head down to Memphis for our annual St. Jude Country Cares conference, we meet up with young, up-and-coming country stars. And this year was no exception. As our annual casino night was wrapping up, Jaclyn and I met Show Dog Universal recording artist, Joel Crouse. Joel has some Kentucky ties . . . in fact, his brother and sister both attended college in Louisville. But it's little brother who's ready to make his radio debut with a song called "If You Want Some." Check it out!
They say timing is everything. And, in this particular case, timing was everything. In 2006, Sara Evans released "Coalmine," the 3rd single from her Real Fine Place CD. That effort had already spawned two Top 10 hits, the #1 hit "A Real Fine Place to Start" and "Cheatin," which peaked at #9. "Coalmine" was supposed to be Sara's third big hit in a row. Only it didn't happen. See, at that time, the nation just wasn't ready for an upbeat, feel-good song about coal mines.
I don't know about you guys, but I am PUMPED UP! The 13th season of American Idol begins tonight on FOX with a special 2-hour premiere. And, as you know, the show sports a brand new panel of judges. Randy Jackson still maintains his seat, of course. But, he's joined by pop divas Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, plus country music superstar Keith Urban! Check out the promo for the show!
