After 2 rain postponements and an unexpected fire, Matt Kenseth and the Best Buy team found themselves in victory lane hoisting the Harley J. Earl trophy, just after 1 AM on Tuesday morning. For the first time in its 54 year history, the Great American Race was postponed due to Mother Nature. Drivers and teams waited for a day and half to get the green flag. If you ask most team owners, they agree they could have spent that in the shop preparing for Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500.

1st there was rain that postponed the 54th annual running of the Daytona 500 for the first time in it's history, then lap 2 a big crash took out Jimmy Johnson, Danica Patrick and last year's Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne they are all collected in the wreck.

After an accident in Thursday’s first Dual race, it was determined that for the first time since 1972, there will not be a Waltrip in Sunday’s Daytona 500. This will be a bitter-sweet moment for Waltrip fans and Owensboro residents alike. Although Michael Waltrip will not be piloting a car in Sunday’s race, he will be joining his brother Darrell, in the TV broadcast booth for the race. This combination is sure to be entertaining for race fans! Two Owensboreans in a TV booth! Danger.

NASCAR's Daytona 500 is Sunday right here on WBKR and wbkr.com. Last week's Tad Poll asked who is your favorite NASCAR driver. It was not scientific but interesting. Our Facebook Fans responded that --shocker!! -- Dale Earnhardt, Jr.was tops at 36%, second at 20% Jeff Gordon followed by Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart. Now, she didn't get any Facebook votes but Danica Patrick is my favorite and she has not even been in a cup race yet, but she's ready.

Motor Racing Network – “The Voice of NASCAR” – is set to start its 2012 stock car schedule the way it ended 2011: with exclusive radio coverage of the sport’s three top national series.

Champions were crowned in Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Trucks a mere three months ago at Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Now, the NASCAR portion of Speedweeks 2012 will commence some 300 miles north … at Daytona International Speedway.
