Big news! Last night I slept 7 1/2 hours. Call the paper! The night before? Uh, not so much. I'm likely not alone; many people (perhaps you) have a great deal of trouble getting to sleep at night. And it may not necessarily be that leftover-piece-of-pizza-as-midnight-snack that's causing the problem.
Nearly one million cars are stolen every year in this country. And you might think the obvious reason is to get from point A to point B. But you'd be wrong.
When Will Ferrell declared he was going to shave off Conan O'Brien's beard, or as it was jokingly called, "Beardpocalyspe", it was way before any of the events of Sunday night took place. In fact, Ferrell had been scheduled to be on Conan last night for probably weeks, and the bit was written, yada-yada-yada
Well, you don't need me to tell you . . . but the rain, rain WON'T GO AWAY and flooding problems continue throughout the tri-state. School systems have dismissed classes, flood waters continue to cover local roadways and highways, dozens of families are displaced, many have homes completely surrounded by water and the volunteers at the American Red Cross are working around the clock to offer flood relief to the area.
Prom season is in the air! If you've hit a local restaurant in the last week or so, you've seen the sea of prom dresses that would make Loretta Lynn look underdressed, the high school boys trying to figure out why in the heck anyone would ever wear a cummerband, and some corsages and bouquets that are bigger than the students wearing them or carrying them around. I love prom season because it brings back great memories of high school. (Yep! I went to prom as sophomore, suckers! And I went with a senior girl! My friend Jennifer was a cougar before being a cougar was cool! LOL!) And, speaking of "cool" . . . last week, I was asked to participate in something REALLY cool!
For the last ten years, country radio stations have been playing the heck out of Darryl Worley's song Have You Forgotten? As a matter of fact, at our most recent WBKR Night at the Grand Old Opry, Darryl sang that song to a raucous standing ovation. The reason that particular song still resonates so profoundly is that no one in the U.S. has forgotten the morning of September 11th, 2001, when, according to Toby Keith's Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue, "a mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back!" It was that day that "The Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist" and now, ten years later, "Mother Freedom" is "ringing her bell." A major chapter in the War Against Terror is closed. Osama Bin Laden is dead.
Saturday was sweet but unfortunately the work week will be a wet one. Heavy rain is possible overnight according to the News25 First Warning Doppler Weather Forecast, and showers are projected to hang around through Tuesday.
If you have not seen this yet you will not believe your eyes. With the last week of consistent severe weather and flooding that is still affecting portions of the tri-state, this is the kind of footage that reminds us just how much we are at the mercy of mother nature.
Here is some of the latest info that we have on our current situation...
The Daviess County Emergency Management Agency's Operations Location on Hwy 81 will have free sand and sand bags. Here's their facebook page to keep up to date on new information http://www.facebook
Here in the tri-state, we are staring down flooding levels not seen since 1997. And, as rain and storms continue, the problems continue to get worse. This morning, I had the chance to chat with my friend, Malissa Troutman with the American Red Cross, about how you can GET help if you need it and how you can GIVE help if you are able. Take a listen . . .
