January 8, 2013 Last night's National Championship Game between #2 Alabama and #1 Notre Dame was a whole lot more #2 than #1 (pardon the pun). Alabama put the smackdown on the Fighting Irish 42 to 14. The pre-game ceremonies had more fireworks than the actual game, thanks, in part, to Zac Brown Band, who came along to sing the National Anthem. Take a listen!
January 8, 2013 I remember waking up and hearing the news about 2004's deadly tsunami in the Far East. It seemed that for months raw video footage of that event surfaced as did harrowing accounts of survival. I vividly remember an episode of Oprah in which Oprah staff member Nate Berkus shared a voicemail he left for his mother shortly after the disaster struck. Nate was there vacationing with his partner Fernando, who was swept away by the waves and never found. Hundreds, thousands of similar stories surfaced and all were terrifying. January 5, 2013 Monica, WBKR's Twitter gal, is obsessed with Chuck Wicks. Wicks, who was featured on ABC's failed reality show Nashville, which was on the air for just two episodes in 2007, first landed on the chart in the same year. His ballad "Stealing Cinderella" melted hearts (like Monica's) and the song, consequently, roared into the Top Ten as Wicks' debut single. It peaked at an impressive #5 on the Billboard Country Charts. The follow up, "All I Ever Wanted," was expected to hit as well. Only, that didn't happen.
January 4, 2013 There are actually a couple of camps on this. There's the camp that says that it's a harmless prank and there's a camp (in which I have pitched my tent) that says you shouldn't prank a child because children aren't yet mature enough to process the good-naturedness of it.
January 3, 2013 One day last week, the folks from Save-A-Lot in Leitchfield called me on the morning show and they were wanting to hear Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagon Wheel." I love that song and was ready to spin it for them, but realized we didn't have it in our song library. So, out of curiosity, I started searching for the song on YouTube and, of course, instantly found OCM's version. But, I also found a lot of other versions of the song, including this one! Check it out. In July, Old Crow Medicine Show played The Grand Ole Opry and was joined on stage by Darius Rucker. Watch!
January 3, 2013 I remember January 3rd, 2000 very well. It was a holiday here at WBKR studios and I had worked for a couple of hours early that morning. By that afternoon, it was sunny. Our temperatures were hovering near 80 degrees and I was ready for a big afternoon nap. That nap was cut short. Cut short by blaring emergency alert sirens ringing through Owensboro-Daviess County. I jumped out of bed and headed for the station. I knew if a storm was going to hit, that's where I needed to be. Boy, did it hit. And Wayne Hart, like he is always, was in his studio with the play-by-play. Check this out!
