KY Highway Snow & Ice Report 2/18/15

Another round of snow started moving across the region around 3:00 a.m., CST.  Crews got a big boost in their snow-fighting efforts from the sunshine on Tuesday afternoon.  The sun helped to melt the near record snowfall we received on Monday from most road surfaces and help to warm pavement temperatures ahead of this next wave of snow.

Ohio Co. Superintendent Delivers “Rapping” One Call For No School [AUDIO]

When I was growing up and there was a chance of snow in the forecast, I knew the phone would be ringing at my house. My Dad was a teacher and one time assistant principal for over 30 years. Back then, I think the teachers/administrators used a phone tree system, you know you call these five people, then he or she calls five more people and so on. Boy, have times changed. And although a recorded "one call" from the superintendent goes out now, Ohio Co's Scott Lewis decided to get a little a creative when the one call went out Tuesday for no school for the remainder of the week. KY Highway Snow & Ice Report 2/17/15

No new snowfall. Temperatures across the district have fallen to as low as 0. Counties are focusing on A routes and Parkways. Crews are still trying to plow snow and clear intersections, turn lanes, and crossovers. Snow is still plowable even with the single digit temperatures.  Ohio County reported a plow ran off into the median on the Natcher Parkway during the night.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are out plowing and salting in all but a few counties at this hour.  Light snow flurries that started drifting across the region about midnight have turned into a steady snowfall that went from a dusting to about an inch of snow in the last hour at many locations

National Weather Service Predicts Historic Snowfall [Video]

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire tristate and the National Weather Service says the approaching storm could produce historic snowfall.  In fact, during their 5pm briefing this evening, forecasters in Paducah predicted that Winter Storm Octavia could result in one of this region's top five snowfalls ever.  Here's video from the briefing.
