Today marks the 17th annual Read Across America Day.  But here in Owensboro, celebrations got an early start with a huge Dr. Seuss-themed event at Towne Square Mall Saturday.  And I was on hand to read the Dr. Seuss classic, The Lorax!

Yep!  That's me and my buddy, The Lorax, the famed Dr. Seuss character who speaks for the trees and urges youngsters to protect the environment: the trees, the animals and the air we breathe.

I was asked to take part in the Read Across America event by my buddy Daymon Ward, who is the general manager of Towne Square Mall.  Daymon was expecting about 50 kids to show up for the event, but was overwhelmed when a couple of hundred showed up.  Here are some of the youngsters listening to my reading of The Lorax.

And I love this photo.  Look very closely to the left of the stroller.  LOL!  That young man decided he wanted to sit with the storyteller in the big leather recliner from Sears.

The event was so much fun and I have to thank Daymon for inviting me to be a part of the festivities.  And I also have to give a huge shout-out to Pancake Patti Moore.  Patti's the librarian at Newton Parrish Elementary and she invited me to her classroom for a crash-course in Lorax-speak!  Dr. Seuss (whose birthday was Sunday) used to make up some CRAZY looking words.  :)
