Some of my best memories from high school were from prom. Dress shopping, getting hair and make-up done with my friends, the limo rides, dinner and hours of ridiculous dancing the night away... But, not everyone has that positive experience. Some girls and their parents have a hard time affording everything that comes along with prom night. A dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and make-up can really add up. This is where Cinderella's Closet comes in!

Cinderella's Closet of Western Kentucky puts a little bippity-boppity-bam in prom! This organization provides formal wear to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their prom.

Co-organizer Carrie Kimbrell says it's so much more than that, "Even more than a dress, Cinderella’s Closet provides an unforgettable, amazing experience,” she said. “From the moment our princesses dance through our doors, they are greeted with an environment of grace, love and respect. It is our mission that these girls will leave knowing they are cherished.”

The event is Saturday, March 19th at the Owensboro Christian Church.

Each “Cinderella” will be greeted by her “Fairy Godmother” (personal shopper) during a special appointment time set between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The special event will also feature a Cinderella waiting area, where girls will have the opportunity to learn hair and makeup tips, decorate a pair of flip flops, and enjoy refreshments. The highlight of each girl’s time at Cinderella’s Closet will include selecting a dress, shoes and jewelry for her special night. If the dresses need alterations made, those will be done on site immediately by a team of seamstresses. The dresses will then be steamed and prepared for the girls to take home, ready for their special evening.

There are 70 junior and senior girls from ten area high schools participating in this magical event. The girls will have their choice from over 700 dresses, sizes 00 to 32, donated to Cinderella's Closet! About 1450 volunteers will be on hand to help out with this magical event.

Cinderella's Closet is one of the ministries at Owensboro Christian Church.

How awesome is it that these girls and their parents can relax and not have to worry about the financial burden that prom can be and just enjoy this fun time! Have fun, girls!
