If you hear loud noises and see flashing lights Monday afternoon and evening in Owensboro, do not be alarmed!  The City of Owensboro is using some extreme methods to try and control the blackbird population!

According to city officials, "In the interest of human health and safety, a pyrotechnic event will take place on Monday, February 27, 2017 in the area from Booth Avenue to Parrish Avenue and from Lexington Avenue to Lewis Lane in the late afternoon.

"Pyrotechnic" means just what it sounds like.  If you live in the area described above, you're going to hear loud booms and possibly see large flashes of light.  A wildlife specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s APHIS Wildlife Services will be setting off the pyrotechnics.
