It was the summer of 1982, and just like EVERYbody else, I went to the movies and watched E.T. And just like ALMOST everybody else (because nothing was as a big as E.T. then), I also went to see a jolting little horror film called Poltergeist.

While Steven Spielberg didn't direct Poltergeist--Tobe Hooper was at the helm--he was the producer, and there were Spielberg touches all over the place.

That...ahem...CLOWN, for instance.

Now I don't have the same fear of clowns as Chad does, but that was a creepy sequence. It just was.

The whole movie was scary. And intense. And it still works today.

That's why the Poltergeist reboot set for a July 24, 2015 release has its work cut out for it, I'd say.
