Yes, Smith was awarded an international scholarship provided by Honeywell for the opportunity to train at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsvillle, AL in an effort to help find ways to make science fun for teens and to hopefully inspire future scientists and engineers. Smith was one of 200 educators from 24 countries and 39 states selected for this once in a lifetime field trip.

Training exercises educators go through include, simulated astronaut training and shuttle missions (including a moon walk!), designing, building, and testing their own rockets, and the opportunity to meet with NASA scientists, engineers, and former astronauts.
