As most of you know, I love marching band. It's one of the reasons I loved high school so much and I miss it every day; that's why it disheartens me to read this. One major marching contest that has been attended by several area bands, including Daviess County, is cancelling their event scheduled for this Saturday.

The Contest of Champions marching band competition at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro is one of the premiere showcases in the country. It started in 1962 but this year will mark the first time it won't go on as planned.

Due to two "White Lives Matter" rallies scheduled to be held Saturday in both Murfreesboro and in neighboring Shelbyville, MTSU is shutting its campus completely down. The campus is two miles from the Rutherford County Courthouse.

The Muhlenberg County Marching Mustangs were scheduled to compete at COC Saturday afternoon.

Dorms on campus will be locked at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
