I grew up watching the Chicago Cubs, Harry Carey, and whichever celebrity would butcher "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" at the seventh inning stretch and the team rarely saw a post season beyond the ivy at Wrigley Field. Yes, there was 2003, when an unsuspecting fan by the name of Steve Bartman reached for a foul ball, bobbled it, and Moises Alou lost out on making a critical catch in the Cubs' series with the eventual World Series champs Florida Marlins. Fast forward to 2015 and one Cubs fan is getting a little leeway on his midterm exam so he can see Chicago take on Pittsburgh this week.

Ben Larson, a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a die hard Cubs as is the rest of his family and they just happened to score tickets to this Wednesday night's NL wild card game against the Pirates; the game is in Pittsburgh. One problem Ben had a midterm scheduled for Thursday. Well, Ben's professor realized the gravity of the situation, and he's allowing Ben to make up the midterm on Friday.

Now I hate to be the spoiler but if the Cubbies win, guess who they take on next?

Oh young Ben, my St. Louis Cardinals not only won the NL Central Division (again!), but they won 101 games this season, more than any other team in baseball. I confess, you had a great season and it would be exciting to see you win that wild card, but I'm going to have to root against you, sorry.

The Cubs take on the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be on TBS. The Cardinals will face the winner on Friday in St. Louis.
