Girls apparently do wanna have fun!  And the pop singer who made that song a monster hit in the 80's apparently wants to go country.  Cyndi Lauper has announced plans to work with famed producer Tony Brown and hopes to release her country-infused album (her 11th studio album) in 2016.  Now, I am a huge Cyndi Lauper fan.  And, because of that, I know she's skirted the country line before.  Did you ever hear Cyndi's cover of the old Gene Pitney song, "I'm Gonna Be Strong"?  This will blow your socks, your boots and your cowboy hats off. WATCH!

Of course, Gene Pitney was a bit of a country crossover artist himself.  After a string of pop hits, Pitney recorded two country albums with the legendary George Jones.  In case you've never heard his version of 'I'm Gonna Be Strong", check this out!

And who remembers Juice Newton's version of the song?  It was featured on her first greatest hits collection.  Here's her cover . . .

Gene Pitney enjoyed country crossover success.  Juice Newton made the transition from country to pop and back.  Can Cyndi Lauper do the same.  She's so unusual . . . she may just be able to pull it off.
