One of NASCAR's most popular drivers will be out of action this weekend. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will miss this Sunday's New Hampshire 301 Sprint Cup race due to concussion-like symptoms.

Earnhardt was evaluated this week in Charlotte and he was not cleared by doctors to race. Alex Bowman will be the substitute driver for the no. 88 Hendrick Motorsports car in New Hampshire. Earnhardt said he wasn't feeling great going into last Saturday night's race in Kentucky. He thought it was severe allergies, but after medication didn't help, the driver, knowing from his past concussion experience with recent wrecks in Michigan and Daytona, decided to meet with a neurologist who suggested he sit out this weekend.

Hendrick Motorsports will provide an update next week on plans for the July 24th race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. is currently 13th in the Sprint Cup point standings.
