I wrote about tonight's big bash elsewhere, but our season long reporting ace, Blake Smith, has arrived with even more details, especially about Junior.

The glitz and glam of the Las Vegas strip has had a “revved up” feeling about this week as the NASCAR community has been celebrating Championship week in Sin City. The cars of the top 12 in points have lined the strip since Wednesday, giving fans the opportunity to take a close look at the works of art.

On Thursday, it was announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has once again been awarded the Most Popular Driver award. This is the 10th season in a row that Earnhardt has won the “fan vote.” The award ties Jr. with legendary driver, Bill Elliott who won the award 10 years in a row and a total of 16 times. Elliott took his name off of the ballot in 2002.

The wait is over. General Motors and NASCAR unveiled the 2013 Chevrolet SS to be used in competition beginning with the 2013 Daytona 500. Some of the changes fans will notice in all of the 2013 cars include distinct body lines that match street vehicles, the “greenhouse” or driver cockpit is the same on every car, longer nose and shorter tails to mimic street cars, carbon fiber hood and decklid and new decals on the windshield and roof of each car.
