When I got to Bowling Green in 1984, one of the first places I discovered as a freshman at Western Kentucky University--through friends--was Split Tree Barbeque. It's still a favorite.

Back in the day, it was a tiny little joint on U.S. 231 just south of BG in the little town of Alvaton.

It was recommended that I order the House Special, a spicy barbecue dish and one that became my favorite entree in all of Kentucky.
