A sculpture honoring "Kentucky Kid" and MotoGP World Champ, Owensboro's own Nicky Hayden, will be unveiled on June 8th in downtown Owensboro.

The memorial for Nicky, who passed away last May from injuries sustained in a traffic accident involving his bicycle and a motor vehicle, will be revealed during Friday After Five at 501 West 2nd, in front of the Owensboro Convention Center.

According to Road Racing World, Colorado sculptor George Lundeen was commissioned to create the bronze statue which will recreate Nicky's "celebratory lap of Monterey, California’s Laguna Seca Raceway following his championship-year victory" in 2006.

Mayor Tom Watson will proclaim June 9th--a reference to Nicky's number 69--as Nicky Hayden Day.

The unveiling will be free to the public.
