We had a big family gathering in Gulf Shores back in 2002. A week on the beach. Nothin' like it. Anyway, despite how great the trip was, I have one regret.

One day, I went down to the beach and was told by others who had been there all morning that I had missed the dolphins. That simply meant that they had come up and were swimming and cavorting with the tourists. And I missed it. And I was bummed.

I dig dolphins. They're incredibly intelligent and they like humans. Plus, they go after sharks. They're not bad to have on our side.

Maybe that's why this video of a bottlenose dolphin being rescued in Hawaii has spread so far and wide. Folks like me might feel just as protective of dolphins as they seem to feel about us.
