I don't know for a fact, but there MUST be a research group somewhere that determines on what side to place "enter" and "exit" doors at businesses.

Walking into Meijer the other day, I went the wrong way.

I headed into the door on the right, except that's where you exit and I met oncoming foot traffic.

It's only natural.

In this country, we drive on the right side of the road. So I guess that informs my inclination to WALK on the right side of the walkway.

In this case, the entry to a box store.

In malls, you'll usually see folks walking on the right side instead of the left.

That's why this is interesting to me:
