Additional Information

Work has begun on the final phases of masonry needed for Theatre Workshop of Owensboro’s EMPRESS THEATER. Formerly known as Goldie’s Best Little Opryhouse in Kentucky, the 104 year-old building is in the midst of a much needed make-over!

Considerable work has been completed inside the building and out, with a new roof, air-conditioning, curtains, technical equipment and lobby ceiling among the items already addressed. Last year, passersby noticed the most obvious change: the outside of the building going from a decades old cream color to its original red brick. This was the result of “tuck pointing”, or the process of repairing mortar joints. With three quarters of the building complete, only the front remains to be done.

An even bigger impact will be made by improvements to the theater’s iconic marquee. With a new coat of paint, replacement of the old neon with LED and brighter lighting, the refurbished TWO marquee will be a landmark to generations of theater-goers to come.

The work is expected to be completed in time for the presentation of OWENSBORO SONGBOOK on April 29. Stay tuned for news on the next wave of indoor renovation, coming this summer!
