Additional Information

Seton Harvest will host an Open House to kick-off the 2013 growing season on Saturday May 4th, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Seton Harvest is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm sponsored by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. The certified Naturally Grown farm uses the land in a just and environmentally conscious way by sharing locally grown food with shareholders and persons who are financially poor and hungry in our community.

Members, or shareholders, pay an annual fee of $425.00 for a partial share or $650.00 for a full share of weekly harvested produce from mid-May to mid- November. A portion of each week’s harvest goes directly to nearly a dozen different charities serving the poor and hungry including: Ozanam Family Shelter, Glenwood Neighborhood Association, the Potter’s Wheel, St. Vincent Day Care, Christian Life Center, a number of food pantries and food banks. The needs of the poor are great in the tri-state area with over fifteen percent of the population living at the poverty level.

In response to a 2003 call to develop an ecological initiative, the Daughters of Charity, taking into consideration their call to serve the poor and interests in land stewardship and health care, formulated the plan for a CSA. Seton Harvest actually began the first growing season in 2006 and is certified as a naturally grown farm. The land is cared for through crop rotation, composting and planting cover crops that deposit organic matter and nitrogen back into the soil.
