More families in Owensboro are affected by pregnancy and infant loss than most even realize.

In honor of October being Pregnancy and Infant Awareness Month a local Pregnancy/Infant Loss group "Footprints on my Heart" will host the 11th annual awareness event on Thursday, October 20, at 6pm at Panther Creek Park.

Laura Casey and Chasity Conder are the beautiful souls behind this event.  Laura suffered multiple miscarriages early in life which left her feeling empty and alone.  Chasity also suffered the loss of sweet "Carson."  Below is Carson's story in his mommy's own words:

At my 21 week ultrasound Carson was diagnosed with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome (left ventricle is not completely formed) and dandy walker syndrome (brain malformation) Carson was born 7.5 weeks early on January 21, 2013, and was immediately taken to Riley's Hospital for Children via life flight in Indianapolis. He was unable to have surgery right away due to his weight. He was finally able to have the hybrid surgery at a month old. After several other procedures and another heart surgery, Carson's heart could go no more and the option for a heart transplant was denied due to his dandy walkers. We had to make the terrible decision that no parents should ever have to make (to take him off life support). On May 5, 2013, Carson gained his angel wings.  We had a wonderful 3.5 months with our baby boy and for that I am thankful. Some do not have that much time. The loss of a child is the worst thing a parent can go through. Even though I have the best support of family and friends, I still felt alone and knew I had to step forward and help others.
