Jenn Shockley at onlyinyourstate.com is in charge of the Kentucky lists for the website. First of all, I think it sounds like a blast. Second of all, in some cases, WHAT IN THE WORLD IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?!?

See, I found this list of ten weird things only people from Kentucky do, except that I'm a native Kentuckian and there are things on this list I don't do and things on this list I would NEVER do.

For example, what in the name of Scooby Doo, Dumb, and Dee is "benedictine?"

Okay, so that's somewhat rhetorical, but it's for emphasis.

By "somewhat," I mean that I now know what benedictine is but had never heard of it until I discovered this list. So I guess you can lump me in with all those folks OUTSIDE of Kentucky the website believes have never heard of this sandwich spread.

Invented in the 1800's by Jennie Benedict, it's a combination of cucumber, cheese, and mayonnaise. And I think it sounds and LOOKS disgusting. Thanks, Jennie. But no thanks.

Also, this pear half/mayo/cheese/cherry thing. What is happening?!?

And don't even get me started on the cornbread and milk concoction. You know, my dad used to take saltines and crumble them up in milk and eat it with a spoon. I thought THAT was gross, but this? Geez. I'm betting that's a really old thing.

Now, for the less nauseating on the list.

I didn't realize we Kentuckians were the only ones who didn't want their food touching on the plate. I'm not like that. It's fine with me. But I do know some who don't.

Let's see...oh, yes...the Kentucky Derby hat.

Women from all over the world come to the Derby and, when they do, they bring a great big Derby hat. So that's not unique to Kentuckians.

But the year-round sweet tea, UK and U of L mania, and quilts? Yep.

First, I know people outside of Kentucky make quilts, but it doesn't seem to be as prevalent outside our borders, particularly when it comes to those big quilt designs you see on the sides of barns.

So, there we go. Tell me, how many of these "weird" things do you do?
