I had suggested that you hang on to your eclipse glasses since we'll have another one, and very close by, in seven years.

But there are a couple of reasons NOT to keep them--one out of necessity, the other out of the goodness of your heart.

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library published a post on its Facebook page about certain eclipse glasses that actually have a shelf life of only three years. That's right.

Do you have one of those pairs?

I don't. Mine do not come with a warning about using them after three years pass.

So I think I will donate them to Astronomers Without Borders.

According to Gizmodo, the organization is going to distribute the glasses they receive to Asian and South American schools. Those continents will get to experience a total solar eclipse in 2019.

Very cool.

Yeah, I thought I'd keep them, but I'd probably lose them by 2024, anyway.
