While it took some time for folks to get used to how quickly Highway 54 "sprung up," I think we're getting into a groove. The number of phone calls regarding wrecks on the stretch from the bypass to Thruston-Dermont Road has diminished in recent months.

But that doesn't mean that help isn't on the way, and, in fact, IT IS!

According to WFIE's Brandon Bartlett, Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne has announced that Highway 54 will undergo a widening project and that construction will begin soon, although no official timetable has been established.

The goal is to enlarge a portion of 54 to 6 lanes with 5 lanes for the rest.

There is also a $335-million retail development project in the works.
