How Far Away Are We from Self-Driving Cars? [VIDEO]

Here's my question...will self-driving cars, should they go mainstream, ALL look like that? Because THAT is one ugly car. I mean, will they make Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers that self-drive? What about trucks?

Plus, how will DUI and texting/driving laws apply? I mean, the "D" in DUI stands for "driving." And I'm not advocating public intoxication, don't get me wrong. Just wondering.

If we need to get something across town, will WE even need to be in the car? Could we just put, say, a dishwasher in the backseat and program the destination? (That's assuming you need to transport your dishwasher, of course.)

These are just questions that have arisen since I first laid eyes on a car that has no steering wheel and does all the work for you.

I'm interested to know how far away these things are, aren't you?
