So something really idiotic is being floated around in college basketball. I mean...stupid. Incomprehensible. It's a practice that hasn't been in play in decades. And it should never return.

There have been suggestions that college freshmen be deemed ineligible to play college basketball.

Yes, you read that right.

But before you begin thinking that that is so unbelievably ludicrous that it would never happen, know two things:

First, it used to be COMMON practice. Prior to the 1972-73 season, freshmen couldn't play basketball or football in college.

Second, one of the premier conferences in all of college sports--the Big Ten--is planning on discussing the reinstatement of freshmen ineligibility.

So John Calipari weighed in.

And he said that if a league really believes...REALLY BELIEVES...that that is the best thing for the student athlete, then do it.

But he also questions if that's really why the topic would even come up.

He also had a few things to say about players not being eligible for the draft until they've completed two years of college.

In fact, Calipari had some very POINTED comments about why coaches might not be in favor of "2-and-through"...the kind of comments that will generate a lot of chatter on social media and in the press.

But, listen, there's no way, I mean NO WAY, preventing freshmen from playing at the college level is good for them or the sport.

That's merely my two cents worth, but, geez, this just can't happen.
