The old Kentucky Kingdom amusement park in Louisville will reopen thanks to the efforts of the Koch family, owners of Holiday World and Splashin' Safari!

Slated to open in May 2013, the park will bear the name Bluegrass Boardwalk.

Like Holiday World, Bluegrass Boardwalk will feature free soft drinks and free sunscreen throughout the park as well as free inner-tubes at the water park attractions.

The Kentucky State Fair board approved the proposal last week to lease the vacant park to the Koch family. It has taken years to get a proposal the board would approve. Not even the efforts of the park's former owner, Ed Hart, were enough to get the board to lease the property.

The Koch family says you can expect the same safety, service and family friendly atmosphere at the new Louisville park as you experience at Holiday World.
