With the Labor Day holiday weekend fast approaching, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety, the Kentucky State Police, and local law enforcement are joining a national crackdown on impaired driving.

The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Campaign is underway and will last through Labor Day, September 3rd.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides money to state offices like the KOHS, which, in turn, distributes funds in order to increase the presence of law enforcement during high-traffic holiday weekends.

In 2017, nearly 4,000 traffic collisions happened as a result of alcohol-related impairment. This led to more than 1,800 injuries and a staggering 121 fatalities.

In Daviess County, last year, there were 77 alcohol-related crashes which led to 33 injuries and two fatalities.

Fifty-seven accidents on Labor Day weekend alone, last year, were because of alcohol. Those wrecks yielded 22 injuries and three deaths.

If you're a motorist and you spot an impaired driver, you're encouraged to the Kentucky State Police hotline at 1-800-222-5555.
