Kentucky Law Expands Protection For Domestic Violence Victims

Before January 1st, the only way a person in Kentucky could get a emergency protective order was if he or she was married, had a child in common or live together. An expansion to the law now includes couples who are dating.

Instead of just having Emergency Protective Orders, House Bill 8 has created Interpersonal Protective Orders (IPOs). The bill brings Kentucky up to date with most other states in terms of creating protections for people in dating relationships, victims of sexual assault, and victims of stalking.
